Platform Collapse at Graduation Ceremony in Mexico

This Friday afternoon, a tiered platform used for a group photo of psychology students from Iberoamerican University collapsed. The event, typically organized by external contractors, took place in the central plaza garden, near the statue of Ignatius of Loyola. The incident occurred just as the students were taking their photos in front of friends, family, and fellow students. Following the accident, several ambulances arrived on campus to provide immediate assistance to the victims. The official report indicates that 23 people were affected with bruises and minor injuries, of which 6 were transported to receive medical attention. University authorities and emergency services cordoned off the area of the incident to facilitate rescue operations and damage assessment. The Mexico City Secretariat of Comprehensive Risk Management and Civil Protection stated that the accident was caused by improper installation: As a result of the improper installation, the structure collapsed under the weight of the people on it. A person who approached the collapsed platform noted that the structure was tied with ropes, questioning if this was the cause: 'What a horror, what a madness this is, with threads, all tied with threads, with ropes, for the weight it was, madness.'
